Researching the future of electric vehicle charging

Testing new product concepts and researching user needs for bp pulse through qualitative and quantitative studies.

1The client

bp pulse is bp’s electric vehicle charging business, developing new products and services for drivers at home, at work and on the road.

2The challenge

New product areas needed evidence before investment: did drivers understand the concepts, would they use them, and where did the proposed journeys break down?

The main objectives were to:

  • Test new product concepts with a broad range of drivers
  • Research user needs through qualitative and quantitative studies
  • Run usability sessions on new product development areas
  • Identify opportunities and service-level blueprints across the EV charging projects

3Our approach

We ran usability sessions and concept tests with a broad range of participants, combining qualitative interviews with quantitative studies to size what we found. The research informed service-level blueprints and identified opportunities across a range of EV charging projects.

4The results

bp pulse product teams had evidence on user needs and concept performance to shape their roadmap. Engagement ran from June to October 2024.
